Appligent Joins the PDF/A Competence Center

Appligent Document Solutions today announced that the company has joined the PDF/A Competence Center, the industry group dedicated to promoting awareness and adoption of ISO 19005, the standard for archival PDF.

In October, 2002, Appligent Document Solutions became one of the first organizations to join the effort to create the PDF/A International Standard for archiving electronic documents. Appligent’s CTO, Mark Gavin is one of the original members of the PDF/A ISO working group; and, contributed heavily to the process of creating the PDF/A International Standard.

“The PDF/A Competence Center is doing a great job promoting PDF/A in Europe,” said Appligent Document Solutions CEO Duff Johnson. “Appligent’s been involved with PDF/A since the beginning, and we’re pleased to join with the leading promoter of PDF/A to help advance awareness and adoption of this critical technology.”

Johnson was referring to Appligent Document Solutions’ recent strategic marketing agreement with Germany’s callas software, a leader in PDF/A implementations development.

Harald Grumser, Chairman of the PDF/A Competence Center, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Appligent Document Solutions as a member of the PDF/A Competence Center. As an original member of AIIM’s PDF/A Working Group, Appligent is very experienced in PDF/A. We are looking forward to expanding the PDF/A Competence Center’s activities in the US this year in cooperation with Appligent Document Solutions.”

PDF/A announcements are in the near-future for Appligent Document Solutions.  “Our customers have been asking for a way to get PDF/A functionality alongside our existing applications,” says Johnson. “We’ve thought long and hard about it, and we know that we can deliver the right combination of software and implementation assistance to make any server-based PDF/A-conforming implementation work as intended,” Johnson said.
